Animatronics

Hippie Crane Cowboy (WIP)

UNCSA Animatronics class project. Took project from sketch, to 3D Model, to CAD, and then fabrication. Head and hands/banjo sculpted in zBrush and 3D printed, CAD done in Fusion360. Designed parts are a mix of 3D printed, purchased, and patterned/bent aluminum.

Nutcracker Animatronic Mechanism Design mk.2 (WIP)

Mech designed in Fusion 360 using a combination of fabricated, prefabricated, and 3D printed parts. Improving upon the old mech (down below) in a variety of ways. Separated the mechs and shells into discrete components, replaced gearing with less finicky pushrods, improved cable routing, added nod/tilt function. Also integrated a surfaced head shell into the mech. Parts fabricated with a mix of 3D printing, laser-cutting, and good old-fashioned steel fabrication. Action video forthcoming! Resolving a controls issue.

Nutcracker Animatronic Mechanism Design (OLD)

Mech designed in Fusion 360 using a combination of fabricated, prefabricated, and 3D printed parts. Collaborated with UNCSA Animatronics department to produce a show that ran 12hrs/7 days.

Prototype Tentacle Puppet

Work in progress. 3D printed plastic discs actuated by bike cable assemblies linked to servo motors controlled via Arduino. Discs modeled in Autodesk Inventor.
